Artist's Description

In 2006 I made a sombre visit to the former concentration camp at Dachau (near Munich in Southern Germany). At least 25,000 people (many of them political prisoners) lost their lives in this camp during World War II.

I cannot even begin to adequately describe the sadness that still exists in this place. It was a quiet winter’s day when I visited. There was fresh snow on the ground in places. Some of the original barbed wire perimeter fencing still stands. The stark contrast of the rusting barbed wire against the pure snow caught my eye and has become a symbol for me, of the terrible sadness of that place.
