When the moon is bright...

When the moon is bright...

A most incredible church at Sternberg (near Velden in Austria). Perched precariously on top of the mountain, this church enjoys incredible views over the valley and lakes below.

Also from the same beautiful church:

Mozart and the euphoria of singing, singing, singing…

When I embarked upon my journey at the beginning of this year, I made a list of things that I wished to explore or enjoy… in my quest to overcome my terrible afflictions with depression, anxiety, insecurity, guilt and anger. It was an ambitious list, for a man in my state of mind at the time:

In my first few weeks, I managed to successfully tick off just about everything on my list… except for the ‘choir bit’.

So, this week… I finally joined a choir. And not just your average backyard choir… but an incredibly talented bunch of people who call themselves the Gold Coast City Choir. I have thrown myself in at the deep end and committed to joining the group, as they prepare for their busy Easter performance schedule. Amongst the song list for their Easter recital is the hauntingly rich and intoxicatingly powerful “Requiem Mass” by Mozart (one of my newly discovered favourites is Lacrymosa).

Over the past few days, I have completely immersed myself in the world of Mozart. It has been twenty years since I read sheet music, I have never before sang in a choir and had never listened to ‘Requiem Mass’ until this week. But goodness, it just feels so very right. Mozart is now playing in my world… every waking hour (I even wrap my MP3 Player in plastic bags to listen to Requiem Mass whilst kayaking…. oh bliss….). It is such a dream to be singing this beautiful music.

All spruced up and heading off to my very first choir session…

Some photos from the Choir’s website ...

So. With my mind filled with all things Mozart and Requiem Mass, this image just seemed to flow out of my mind… a church in Austria (the birthplace of Mozart) under full moon on a rather haunting night:

Gee whiz Catherine, I am speechless. Thank-you, thank-you and thank-you. Yeah, I reckon that I probably am a great bloke, but I have certainly made my fair share of chronic mistakes in the past decade or so… My depression, anxiety, insecurities and anger have affected those whom I love the most… I am determined to find peace and happiness in my life (hence, the list) and yearn to be a better man…. so that ONE DAY I can be rewarded with a loving relationship and a lifetime of happiness. Cheers :-)

WOW Keiran! Beautiful narrative to go with the beautiful photography and I will look forward to coming and hearing you sing!!! (will you be in tune?!) Your photography here is VERY Mozart! And here is the curly question! What stars are they, in the background?!!! (As if you don’t have enough to do on your to do list!!!) (Can you please pass the secret of your motivation (re the daily stuff) on to me!!!)

  • Keiran Lusk replied

Geez, thank-you Vicki. Oh shit… you are coming to hear me sing? I certainly hope that I will be in tune! Actually, I have no problem keeping in tune… it is the complicated musical arrangements and latin lyrics that have me struggling! But I am doing lots and lots of homework and WILL catch up to the rest of the choir soon! And as for the stars… cough cough… I must let you in on a little secret… the stars are part of a little known galaxy which I completely made up during the editing of this image… I hope that this information does not ruin this image for you :-)

Awww, you could have lied about the stars Keiran!! (kidding!) I will just pretend that I didn’t read the last part of your response!!! I will be the one in the white curly wig (like shirley temple) with big purple glasses, wearing a yellow kaftan…. you won’t miss me!!! Though you might want to!!!!

  • Keiran Lusk replied

Yeah… I should have lied and no-one would have ever suspected. I will be on alert for white curly wigs and yellow kaftans. Cheers :-)

:D That’s quite the checklist! Congrats to you for finishing it off!!!

  • Keiran Lusk replied

Ha, thank-you Rachel. I am getting there slowly. I just checked back over the list, and I reckon that I should ‘untick’ the ‘painting and drawing more often’ category… I have been very slack with this one lately! Other than that, I am definitely on track. I have my first choir performance this week and am both nervous and very excited! Peace and happiness to you :-)
