Australia Day, Perth.

My title cannot be any more blatant. This shot was taken on the 26th January 2007 (Australia Day).

It was a pity I didn’t bring my Sigma 28-300mm lens because it could’ve been so useful taking portraits of others in the crowd. One would call that stalking, but Australia Day is a day which every Australian (be it citizens or refugees) celebrate freedom, independence and humanity. What’s wrong with taking pictures of Australians to just reflect that anyway? :)

I was lucky to get this shot. I know many others were too. We had to brace 40C heat to get a good vantage point for the fireworks. Hence the stormy clouds. Magnifique. This is one of the few (decent) shots which I manage to capture.

I hope you like it.

EDIT: The Australian flag was flown by 2 helicopters. It broke the World Record for biggest Flag ever to be hoisted up the sky.

Great shot! You managed to create a nice even exposure, and the colours look great! Well done. :)

That was a really spectacular Australia day, with the fireworks and the lightning storm, as well as the Comet Mc Naught all in the same night wasn’t it!

Great shot! I love the low horizon and the excellent colouring of the buildings, and also the little bit of detail left in the dark, dark blue sky. You got a perfect vantage point and used it perfectly. (And that Australian flag must have been MASSIVE!)
