Such a wonderful, moody photo, Kellie. And, again, brilliant B&W work. I like the sidelight casting long shadows across the stony road. And the lighted area in the center behind the tree (couldn’t be the sun, though) and the stretching clouds, which seem to emerge from that lighted area. Well, in short, I like everything about it.

Very Anselesque in the tones pulled out in the black and white, the vast expansiveness of the open road and a beautiful cloud dominating skyline has it all in abundance. The streaks of shadows across the path from the light working very well on the texturous path.

I think this has great composition, tones and meaning.

It really is strange. I looked at the title, then at the picture… and I know I commented on this in another life, but the same thing hit me and I didn’t even realize…

It strikes me as late afternoon, and there is a definite finality about the journey down this path… the long shadows, the setting sun, the apparent dead end. And it’s not like I’m thinking maybe it’s really morning, cause it really strikes me as late afternoon. But the more I look, the scene changes to one of optimism… the dynamic clouds, the fine texture from the oblique rays of sun, and the intriguing glow that’s coming from around the corner of what I thought was a dead end…

Then I glanced over to your description… or a new journey? That’s exactly what this picture does to me. I know I’m all over the place writing this and I hope it makes sense, but this is so much more than just a totally gorgeous BW landscape. For me it’s about hope out of desolation. And I haven’t even smoked anything. Yet. Honest.

Even if you forget all that, it’s a gorgeous picture. I love it, and even if it’s in my favs already, it’s dam well goin there agin!!

I look at this as a metaphor for life … this is a road with no end (in sight) a little rough underfoot and man has exerted control over nature (fenced it in). But there is still some residual beauty in the environment. And why do we walk down this road? We don’t really know … because the it’s there? Because it’s more interesting than staying still?
