Vulcan Arrows
A restored Vulcan Bomber being ‘escorted’ into the Dawlish Air Show, 20/08/09, by the Red Arrows Display Team.
This was the first time in 17 years that these aircraft have been seen together at a show.
For those interested in the Vulcan, I will upload one of the craft on its own, and I will be adding a journal with a few more of the pictures on.
I will not bore you with lots of pics of the same craft.
Also, I probably will not be uploading any Red Arrows shots as there are enough already on RB.
I used my Sigma 70-300 Lens for this capture.
Hope you like it.
Thank you for looking.

WOW! Stunning capture Richard, love the Red Arrows and that Vulcan is really AWESOME. Don.
Richard Veal replied
Many thanks Don. Glad you like it.
It was a shame it wasnt the ideal weather. Some showers and a lot of bad light, but this was one of the better ones.
It made a bit of noise also, with those unmistakable Olympus Engines, the same that powered Concorde.
It was a joy to see.
David Lewins LRPS

Great shot Richard, composition and colours are excellent :)
Richard Veal replied
Thank you Trish.
It was one of the few moments the sun was shining during a display.
It was always shining when a display finished and before the next one started, but then it would cloud over again. x

j
Richard Veal replied
Many thanks Jesika.
The first time in 17 years they have been together. x
David McMahon
I know the Avro Vulcan well. I recently drove 1200 km to photograph a Spitfire in the Outback town of Temora. Like you, I also use a Sigma 70-300mm lens. My standard lens is also a Sigma, an 18-125mm beauty that gives me so many options.
Richard Veal replied
Many thanks David.
That was some distance to drive.
Unfortunately, yesterday the Spitfire didnt make it, along with the Lancaster and Hurricane, due to bad weather at their base. :-(
So, better luck next year.
Richard Veal replied
PS.
Thank you for taking the time to comment on my humble capture.
It is really appreciated.

Delany Dean
That’s marvelous, Richard! I grew up in the US Air Force; my father was a bomber pilot in WW II (the B-26), and he later flew the B-47 and the KC-135. I love photos of military aircraft, and this is an excellent one!
Richard Veal replied
Funny that you should say that Delany, as I have a picture of a KC-135. One was at the show an hour before I took this.
I will have to upload it.
Phil Woodman

LYNETTE EVANS
Fabulous shot Richard. I remember the last Vulcan bomber when it was based at St Athans quite a few years ago. It was on display there when we went to watch the airshow. Beautiful aircraft it is too. Do they still use the Harrier jump jet in the displays now. They always fascinated me too when they flew backwards and dipped their noses. :-))))
Richard Veal replied
Thank you Lyn.
The harriers are being phased out, and there was the Naval Air station near Yeovil where they had a few squadrons, but they have gone now, so you dont see them much now.
Noisy things they were also.
LYNETTE EVANS
Why are they getting rid of them…they were so agile…my favorite too.
Richard Veal replied
They are gradually going, and yes, they were very agile.
I used to sit and watch them for ages and could never ceased to be amazed at the way they just used to hover and be so still.
LYNETTE EVANS
...and the lightening….and the phantom ;-))))
Richard Veal replied
Havent seen them for ages.
We had the Hawker Hunter at the airshow. Still a lovely plane.
shakey
Great shot Richard.
Richard Veal replied
Many thanks Paul.
Glad you like it.
