Portrait of a member of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux (Dakota) Community. Prior Lake, Minnesota.
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux (Dakota) Community is a federally recognized Indian tribe formally organized under federal reservation status in 1969. Tribal members are direct lineal descendants of Mdewakanton Dakota people who resided in villages near the banks of the lower Minnesota River. Chief Sakpe, [Shock-pay], which means “number six” in the Dakota language, spoke for a village that was located near what is today the town of Shakopee, which was named after him.

Wow, Kimmy, the detail and color and absolute clarity in this image are just outstanding…the colors are so intricate and you picked them up perfectly including the sheen on the white-ish part…sorry, I don’t know what you call what he is wearing? Can you tell me? The intense and very determined and proud look on his face is also captured so well….you really excel at this sort of photography and I know you enjoy it too .. and it shows!
Thanks so much Kat!! I do love it!! …his clothing is called “Regalia” I have been wanting to try this “painting with light” stuff, and finally found a tutorial that made sense to me!! lol It’s not perfect, but I was pretty pleased overall. I also applied a technique called the “Dragan Effect” – based on the style of a portrait photographer by that name.
I’m so pleased you like it!! xxX

Wow..you have blown me away with this one. Superb doesn’t even feel like it covers it. You have a real talent my friend. This photograph really speaks. I can’t help but think of all the stories Chief Sakpe could share. What an experience! Exceptional all the way around :0) Hugs, Peechez
I can’t thank you enough for such a wonderful comment, Peechie!! (…sorry, taking liberties with your name) There are stories on that face, aren’t there? I’m so pleased you like it… I have been trying for a long time to work an image like this, so I was pleased too!!
Thanks again, and hope you are feeling better!! …Next year you and Shutterbug should go to this PowWow… not too far at all.
