After the group of ceremonial dancers compete, they gather in front of the judges area. The colors and arrangement of feathers and beads on their regalia is simply amazing.

Image taken in Prior Lake, Minnesota – Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux community’s 2012 Wacipi (wah-chee-pee) – A traditional Native American cultural celebration where the generations gather to dance, sing, and socialize. In the Dakota language, it means “they dance”.

…looks like you had a good day…were you an official photographer?…your photos of the event should be used in some formal way…if they are all like the two you have put up here they definitely portray the day very well.

  • Thanks Kat!! We did have a good day… the weather was beautiful – warm and sunny with big puffy couds providing some shade to the dancers and spectator alike. They have a program they hand out at the event that is filled with photos from the previous year, so I will contact them with some of what I have and see how it is received, but I was not the ‘official’ photographer.
