The most common owl in North and South America, the great horned owl has adapted to a wide variety of habitats and climates.

In this image, I have given Bubo (his name – which comes from the Genus in his scientific name) a lovely perch… from the background courtesy of Alba_stock (DA). and then I set the time and the mood with textures by darkwood67, frenchkiss, and Anna Lenabem.
Model: Bubo – photographed at The Raptor Center – Univ. of Minn., St. Paul, Minnesota; Fuji FinePix S3 Pro, nikkor lens.

My name is Kimberley (Kim). Thank you for visiting my gallery – I appreciate your visit and welcome your comments.

The background work here is terrific, Kim, and really suits the main subject…tones are blended and appropriate….really nicely done with a certain amount of drama which makes it really eye-catching…

  • Thanks so much dear Kat! All credit for the background to the person who made it – I added textures and did some blending and color changes. It seemed to suite my quest for a dusk or dawn atmosphere….

So nicely done Kim, your friend looks quite comfy and at home! Beautiful work, love the background you have chosen, great lighting and wonderful detail on the Owl!

  • Thank you Tina – I used flash for him as he was in a dimly lit room when photographed. I have a setting on the camera to under expose the flash, so I don’t get that harshness usually associated with it. My goal is to get him into a more wooded setting too, but this one was so charming and I learn a lot by working with the stock back grounds…
    Thanks again!!! ~kim
