The Traveller

Today i depart
for places unknown,
Just a suitcase in hand
a small bag and my phone.
My passport in order
all visas approved,
No dangerous luggage
security improved.
The case travels on
with more of its kind,
With a fluroescent label
so it’s easy to find.
I get on the plane
track down my seat,
The person i’m next to
has a drink – whisky neat.
Put on my seatbelt
settle in for the flight,
Have a meal – watch a movie
in this metal bird of the night.
I start to feel sleepy
from the soft engine hum,
And slowly to sleep
my eyes do succumb.
When i wake night is day
people moving about,
I carefully stretch
yawn and breathe out.
Breakfast is served i have
eggs ,toast and juice,
The scent of fine coffee
wafts through to seduce.
Our Captain starts speaking
get ready to land,
Soon i’ll be lounging
on soft golden sand.
Landing gently
with hardly a thump,
The tarmac meets rubber
with a few minor jumps,
Going through customs
after finding my case,
Looking out for a taxi
to my new living space.
I’ll be here a week
then i’m back on a plane,
A new destination
perhaps the Ukraine …
