Lancelot and the Dragon

The castle was draughty,
the table was round.
The Knights at the table
were gathered around.
IT wasnt a party,
it sure wasnt fun
The King sent an order
and it had to be done.
A fire breathing dragon,
was the problem, he said,
‘get rid of that dragon’
and he went off to bed.
The Knights were perplexed,
what should they do?
You can’t put a dragon
into the zoo !
Then up stood a Knight,
Lancelot by name.
He cried “dont worry mates,
this dragon i’ll tame”.
The others sighed with relief
as he got on his horse.
They were glad it was him,
on this foolhardy course.
Sir Lancelot rode
through day and through night.
He picked up supplies
to do this just right.
He came to the cave
where the dragon did dwell.
He pulled from his pocket
a friend making spell.
He mixed it just right
with starlight and dew.
Just as Merlin The Wizard
had told him to do.
Sir Lancelot called
for the dragon to come,
Out of the cave
and into the sun.
The dragon he roared,
he wasn’t feeling the best.
And the last thing he wanted,
was an unwelcome guest!
He poked out his head,
and saw Lancelot there.
He puffed out some smoke,
but the knight didn’t scare.
Hmmm… thought the dragon,
and moved up an inch.
But Lancelot stood there,
without even a flinch !
He said," Oi Dragon..
i’ve brought you a treat,
something so tasty,
you just gotta eat".
The dragon was curious,
Lancelot could tell.
And hidden deep in the candy,
was Merlin’s great spell.
The dragon opened
his mouth big and wide,
and Lancelot threw
the candy inside.
The dragon came to a halt,
his eyes big as saucers,
as he was changed by the
spells magical forces.
Lancelot smiled,
then let out a cheer !
His moment of triumph,
was getting quite near.
The dragon lay still,
and didn’t move a muscle.
Lancelot nudged him,
and said they must hustle.
Back to the castle,
from whence he came.
Bringing back with him,
the dragon now tame.
Lancelot received
many cheers and great honor
he told a great story
of how he was almost a gonner.
Now this is his story,
passed down through the ages.
How he tamed the great dragon
as you read on these pages.
