Photo as taken of aerial root bundle high in a Moreton Bay (I think) Fig Tree in Civic Park in Newcastle NSW Australia. This is one of the few trees of this kind left in this area as they keep falling or being cut down. There used to be at least 50 in Newcastle City..

    Great tree!

  • I feel the need to document these trees as the authorities would like to chop them all down.
    Glad you like it

It’s great to see someone else who appreciates these magnificent trees. Moreton Bay, and Port Jackson fig trees need a lot of space to reach their full potential, and us humans keep squeezing them out. Public “amenity” trees are only now starting to get the recognition and respect they deserve. Shaun Tan wrote a beautiful children’s book, called “memorial” (I think, I will check this), about the value placed on these trees and their surroundings by the community. Worth a look!
    Enjoyed your photo!

  • Many thanks for your thoughtful & interesting comment.
Trees are wonderful in all there magnificence, we need more rather than less.
