It has to be the Real Santa. He’s holding a wild squirrel. The squirrel has a broken leg that was decorated for the season in red and green. I think she asked for pecans and walnuts; that’s her favorite food.
I took her to PetsMart photos with Santa and took my own picture. I may do it again this year.

LOL so where is Lina in this photo. What a great idea Kay. What happened to the leg?

  • She wasn’t born yet, Toni is much older.

  • She took a flying leap off my friend and there was no carpet. She didn’t know she couldn’t fly when she was young.

Brilliant hardly covers it. This is a Santa after my own heart. Great work, Kay; great! Our Little Red came into the house for a visit the other day ~ shot past me when I opened the door. I always expect this & take precautions every time, but that day he said Enough is Enough & made it into the inner sanctum. He’s so used to me that he wasn’t at all panicky in the new surroundings ~ made his way through kitchen, dining room & living room, ignored the Christmas tree (I was hoping he’d climb up to the top & sit there long enough for me to photograph him (hah!), then climbed the stairs & zipped into our bedroom. I was slower getting up the stairs, & before I got to the top, I heard much rustling & rummaging (lots of Christmas stuff out in the open just now ~ tissue paper & bags & boxes & tags), & got to the door just in time to see him climbing wrapping paper rolls that were stacked vertically against one window. He decided this was folly, slid down one of them, zoomed past me into the hall & from there down the stairs. I followed, but by the time I got to the bottom, he was nowhere to be seen or heard… had to have made a beeline back through living & dining rooms & kitchen to the open back door. I left the door wide open despite the fact that a half-dozen Grays were sporting just outside, & are perfectly happy to come into the kitchen & look around. Lady Grey comes in regularly & stands up in front of the refrigerator, thus keeping all other comers at bay. But no one else came in ~ probably the sight of Little Red shooting forth from the open door was enough to slow them down! I didn’t see him for the rest of the day, but I was certain he’d gone out, & sure enough, next day he was back at his usual post in the back shed.

  • I love your story. I so wish they were in my neighborhood. My last house was developed in a tobacco field and our trees got big enough about the time we moved. One of my releases still lives in my trees there and a couple babies fell out in a hurricane. I can hardly believe it, as many squirrels as I raised never to have them in the yard, except in release pens. A couple escaped and that’s who stayed.
