Graphite Pencils 5H to 6B
Original 16 × 22 inches
In the 1890’s, my grandfather (far right) traveled with Doc Carver’s Wild West Show to Europe, Russia and Australia.
He auditioned his bronc riding and roping in each town from his home in Terry, Montana and was finally hired in Yankton, South Dakota. It was rather like running away from home to join the circus.
He brought home publicity photos and I refered to them to draw this group.
Standing to L to R
Billy Garnett, Painted Horse, Jim Marsh and Berney Kempton
Seated L to R:
He Crow, Mrs. Black Bear, Black Bear and children
I’m not satisfied with this photo of the drawing and will continue to look for solutions to the “look.”
