Berney Edmond Kempton: July 8,1870 – March 2, 1942
Berney was a rancher, ran a hotel, and dude ranch and restaurant in eastern Montana. He had ridden with a wild west show in his youth. He loved telling about it and his Sioux heritage. He dressed in a suit coat, knee boots and jodhpurs when not working the ranch. The artist, Charlie Russell, commented on his attire at a Miles City Stampede, “At least there’s one real cowboy here,” he stated.
