You can see this white squirrel is not albino by her black eyes. She has a sparse dorsal stripe of black hairs and a few on her head. She is a white-phase eastern gray squirrel from Brevard, NC USA. I was fortunate to receive this squirrel to raise and release.

Little pockets of white squirrels live in North America. Brevard is one of the places that has a White Squirrel Festival to celebrate squirrels. It’s held on Memorial Day weekend in late May.

She looks like a super-star in squierrel society. Don’t they hibernate in Montana?
Let me know when is the day grounghog come out over there.

  • LOL,squirrels that live underground do, but tree squirrels eat and search for food all winter, they stay in nests on worst days and eat what they stored in there. I’ll let you know about groundhogs. I think they’re marmots here. I saw a badger crossing the road on the ranch.

We have squirrels all year around as many as craws, pigeons and seagulls in recent years. i thought its because we are warmer. Thank you for make me smarter. I’ll pass on to my grandson. We see badger in backyard. I’m sorry to say if they are as beautiful as the squiell you shoot they might have better life, nature(?) isn’t fair.

What an absolutely beautiful capture, Kay! I’ve heard of the white squirrels and I’m pretty sure there’s a town up here has a large population of them, too.

  • Thanks. There are several white squirrel capitals… I think one in Olney IL.
