These Birdsnest Ferns have found their perfect environment, growing in sparse soil on a rocky outcrop above the river at Minnamurra falls, Budderoo National Park. The park lies in a temperate rainforest area on the edge of the Illawarra escarpment and the lack of frost and high humidity is ideal for these magnificent ferns. Starting from the rangers station, the track follows the river and crosses it twice on suspension bridges. A steep path winds up the side of the escarpment and back down the other side of the river. This part of the track is all boardwalk and wheelchair accessible. A fork in the path about halfway along leads to the falls themselves but this is not wheelchair accessible. There is a park entry fee and the park can get quite busy as it is so close to Wollongong but it is truly beautiful and well worth the visit.!!………Taken with my Olympus VR 310.
