Lichen on Waldheim,Cradle Mountain,Tasmania. by

The tiny lichens and orange coloured growths on the King Billy Pine walls at Waldheim made an interesting picture.Waldheim, meaning forest home, was the original residence of Gustav Weindorfer, who was instrumental in forming the Cradle mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. The constant rainfall at Cradle mountain creates a perfect climate for all kinds of fungi, lichens and mosses……..Taken with my Nikon Coolpix 5700.

I live in Tumut at the base of the Snowy Mountains in N.S.W. I travel to Tasmania quite often to photograph the wonderful landscapes and plant life, unique to this beautiful island state. Fungi, mosses and lichens are my particular interest. I hope that you enjoy looking at the results of my wonderful photographic journey!

going thru my lichen books……..you have at LEAST 3 lichens here. LOVE how the paint has washed away but left trails to show it’s age. lovely capture!

  • Hi Carla,
Thanks for your thoughtful comment, and also for making this picture a favourite. I’m very pleased.Waldheim, which means Forest home in German, is built of King Billy Pine[endemic to Tasmania] and is a monument to Gustav Weindorf,an Austrian who live at Cradle Mountain and was instrumental in having Cradle Mountain declared a National Park.It now contains a small museum.
    Best Wishes,
    Kaysharp.
