Second shoot reflections by Kaylea

Posted on March 29, 2010

It has taken me almost a year, but I have done my second shoot – this time with a 4 month old baby. Again I loved the experience and this time it was with a couple who I am friend’s with and their baby boy. I thought I would feel even more nervous that shooting strangers, but as soon as I arrived, things just came naturally. Luckily they have an amazing space that had glass windows from ceiling to floor so there was lots of gorgeous natural light coming in.

As with the other shoot, I wanted to write my reflections on here to keep referring back to:
Things I did well
I was comfortable with the subject and his family and was able to create a good atmosphere for the shoot.

I had all the shots that I wanted to take in my mind and got all but one of them.

I came home with about 30 very good images and 3 that really moved me.

I feel that I used the light well in the images.

Things I need to improve in
Alot of the photos had the same composition – close-up of head

Still really work on using the light

The wider shots of the whole family need thinking about more carefully as the background is sometimes too busy.

I should take more shots with the whole of the subject in.

Even though babies do not run around, they still move alot! So I need to work on getting good detail foot and hand shots whilst the baby is jiggling around. (maybe when they are asleep!)

I loved doing the shoot and each time I do it I know that it is something that I really want to get into.
