The trouble with me... by Kaylea

Posted on June 17, 2009

The trouble with me is I want to know everything yesterday! I bought my camera about a year ago now, but in the last 6 months I have got really serious about photography. By that I mean I am always reading forums, looking for inspiration, getting out taking photos whenever and wherever I can and always learning.

I do learn something new everyday about photography: today I learnt that you can balance ambient light with the fill flash (as a ratio) to get a correctly exposed picture. I havent tested it out yet but I read about it on the way to school in the taxi. When I got home I learnt how to download fonts to use in photoshop and created my first typographic card. So what am I complaining about?

At the moment everything is a very steep learning curve and although I am enjoying and seeing the benefits of my motivation, I wish things would come a bit easier.

I know it takes time and patience is a virtue, but patience is something I have little of!

Someone I admire in the photography world took 4 years to get to where she is now and so I dream about what I will be like then!

But it is fun to experiment and then look back to see how your stuff has changed and grown. I definitely see a big difference in what I do now and it’s been only a couple of years, not even.

Did you set up your Zazzle account … would love to see it. You should do a business card with that photo where you have the small glittery ball in your mouth. That would make a great card for a club or discotheque kind of place.

Hi Caroline, I know you are right and I have seen loads of changes from when I started about a year ago. Just the fact that I know how to shoot out of auto mode is a big achievement for me!

I have set up my zazzle account and I have made the diamond one into a card. I put it for a unique jewellers. I find the cards really difficult to set up size wise but will keep at it. I have just discovered typography and I really like using quotes in cool fonts. I think they do postcards on zazzle so might get a few of them made and then really think about setting the shop up properly.

I obviously follow your sales and things on here but I must get round to looking at your zazzle site.

I have got my first child portrait shoot this weekend (just to practise). I am very excited about it! Will show you some of the shots and would appreciate your feedback.
