The Port Giles Jetty is about a kilometre long and various claims to being the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere have been made – oter claims say “one of the longest jetties”! It is a treat to walk out on it, chat to the fishermen and always one knows to expect the unexpected and this is what happened to me when I visited Port Giles in December.

The sea at Pt. Giles in South Australia is reasonably shallow a long way from the shore but fishermen have solved the problem of getting their craft to and from the shore. What are tractors for!

I am a fisherman’s grand-daughter but had never seen this form of launching or recovering a boat. (At least I don’t think I have but the memory often isn’t what it used to be!)

I was captivated!

Great shot, Kay – where have you been?

  • Thank you – and in answer to your question I have been going up the wall and not able to connect to red bubble! Hope the problem is now solved though! xo Kay
