Day 70 by KatsEyePhoto
Clear

My personal 365 project.

Down on the farm today. This little farm cat was very affectionate and possibly suicidal. She followed me everywhere, walking beneath my feet (literally). I don’t know how many times I stepped on her but she never gave up. It was really quite a sight, me walking with a straddling step because she insisted on running along between my legs. Really. She was so intent on getting petted that she wouldn’t back up far enough for me to get her in a picture. But persistence (mine) paid off and I got this shot, which turned out rather well, I thought. Taken at Venetucci Farm in Fountain, Colorado.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Canon 24-70mm lens.

I like this image a lot, but it has to be viewed large to give it credit. For example, the larger the view the more prominent the cat is, especially the look in the eyes and the direction the cat is looking, ie not at you. Getting the cat in sharp focus has helded produce a strong composition, so has the overall light and the machinery. The image has this candid/structured mixed feel about it and that’s its allure. I suspect this is due to being Day 70 and not Day 1, and the practice that has involved. There’s a poignancy to this image, which is enhanced by the B&W, and to cap off a strong composition is the log on the seat. Great shot.

  • Wow, thank you for such a wonderful critique! Yes, it definitely looks better viewed large. It also looks much better in b&w than in color, and I rarely say that about my pictures. The color version loses its focal point and is distracting, too busy and chaotic. When I took out the color the picture assumed a much more balanced feel. I really appreciate you taking the time to look at my work. You’re a great critic.

What Peter said … so much better viewed “large” :-)
Persistance indeed has paid off, Kat – a gorgeous outcome! :-))

This is worth framing Kathi….So natural…..superb focus and clarity…Awesome when viewed in large…You captured the cat at just the perfect moment while walking towards you from under that great piece of machinery from the past…I love how the photo looks B&W with the slight touch of color in the cat and log…Very cool the rays of sun from the side…The exposure is top knotch….This is My all time favorite photo of yours at this time…T

  • Thank you, Thomas! What a lovely comment.
