…the guy on the right flew into my shot at just the right millisecond! Those Thistles were pretty popular that morning.

Hi Katherine, this is a gorgeous shot. I’m actually quite envious of your ability to produce sharp images with a perfectly blurred background. I’ve not noticed any lack of sharpness in your images at all. Maggie x

  • Thanks, Maggie!

Hey Kat – this is splendid!! …I think that second butterfly understands the concept of “the decisive moment”!!
Regarding (the dreaded) softness…. One explanation may be that you have been employing a very shallow depth of field on your most recent posts, and that can be viewed as ‘softness’. But they look tack sharp where you wanted them to be. Are you ‘denoising’ or ‘de-jpeging’ (are those even words??) your images? Sometimes over-doing the denoise gives a soft look – I have noticed this in my own images. Like with everything in photography, it is compromise: to get rid of noise you get ‘blur’ on edges. I hope this makes sense…..
    I love the image!! xxX

  • Hi Kim, thanks…no, I seldom use my de-noise program with my “new-ish” camera as I find noise introduced only if I’m shooting at a ridiculously high ISO.. and it does go high! …maybe I need my eyes checked..this looks sharp to me…ugh…

…it looks sharp to me too, Kat. Just something I thought of to pass on…

  • …merci beaucoup…! no, I understood what you were saying.. PLUS, some images are supposed to be soft and dreamy, no? I’m obsessing now….
