This very young Mallard duckling duo were, for some reason, abandoned by their Mum. It was just the two of them, together, against the world and they were never apart from each other. Their bond is evident in this photo.

Sadly, a couple of weeks ago only one of these ducklings remained and the poor thing was absolutely frantic and in a panic looking for the other one. I fed him and searched the pond for his sibling but with no luck. Left all alone ….. now, the second one is also gone.

Life is a tough struggle for these little ducklings; particularly, with no adult supervision and guidance their coping / survival skills are non-existent…very sad.

RB Update on Shipping Issues: Still have not received anything; however, “Thomas” from RB has said he will investigate and determine why these shipments are not leaving Calif. when headed for Toronto. This is, of course, much more useful and constructive than my being told to call customs so I’m giving RB the benefit of the doubt and will wait for further information.

They are such a sweet, fuzzy pair with shiny eyes. Their story is so sad, the always-present side of nature that can seem so very cruel. I’m glad you captured and shared this special moment.

  • Hi Celeste, thank you so much… I got down on the ground with this little duo and super concentrated on getting their eyes as sharp as I could…they were staying very still so that helped!

Darn it all Kat, I didn’t read first…. now I’m bummed. It is still a stunning image, and more meaningful now, but how sad. Nature sure can be harsh….. xxX

  • Thanks, Kim…nature can be very harsh and that part is very sad when you see it close-up like with these two….thanks for all your support…

  • Hi Kim, I used focus peaking here and also got right down on the ground to take this at the level of the little duo….I focused on their eyes and tried to get them really sharp…

So cute and adorable. Well done. I hope the last one survives against all odds.
