Got up super early the other day and walked over to the shore of Lake Ontario to look for………uh…shorebirds!
After I set up my gear I peered through my camera’s viewfinder and found myself looking out at two lone Ring-billed Gulls on the breakwater….the sun was just….. just.. coming up – trying hard to burn off some stray remnants of fog that had settled in over the water. The scene I saw was somehow of another world as the colors were a combination of subdued neutrals and contrasted hues thanks to the odd light of the moment – the second, in reality.
I am currently reading a book about photography.. sure, nobody likes those cute goslings shots or handsome dog shots or territorial Red-winged Blackbird shots more than I; however, this author commented that photography is essentially driven by capturing for your audience what your eye saw… bringing to your audience that moment.. through the sheer emotion of the image if you can seize it…so, it occurs to me that this photo might be just that.. it’s not super pretty or striking or attention-getting but it’s what I saw and it was – A New Day on the Breakwater.
