Northern Shovelers winter here in Toronto arriving on the pond in late October…rather an elusive duck I don’t think this fellow saw me hiding and I was able to get this shot just as the sun shone brilliantly upon rising …setting off the russet and dark emerald tones of the Shoveler’s plumage…you often see Shovelers twirling around feeding in little groups and, of course, they are known for those spoon-like bills. Particularly striking in flight, too!
