Double-crested Cormorants, not possessing waterproof feathers, are excellent under-water divers as their their buoyancy is decreased by the lack of waterproofing. Consequently, after a bout of diving, Cormorants (like this one at Grenadier Pond, High Park, Toronto, Ontario). are often seen with their wings spread – in an attempt to dry their feathers…always sort of a comical sight!
