Canada Geese are very companionable with one another … but they seem to be a problem for so many people – sad. The annual Canada Geese round-up was recently done by the Toronto Region Conservation Authority along the lakeshore parks in Toronto. It’s always conducted while the geese are moulting and flightless – usually late June. I was in touch with the TRCA all week and I watched the round-up at the pond this past week (as we were concerned about excluding one particular weak goose). Truth be told, the round-up was humane and gently done and the geese go to an area in the province about 400 km north of Toronto where they have plenty of farmland grazing area and wetlands. I still dislike removing them from their home turf. Some return – smart and intuitive. In New York State the round-up practices are not humane and they apparently gas the geese to death…that’s beyond horrible and I could write pages regarding how I feel on that cruel and atrocious practice but I’ll be polite and stop now.
