As a dreamer who aspired to conquer everything,
Until she realized some matters were beyond her control.
As an enthusiast whose reason for living life,
Was love alone.
As a leader who taught by example,
And treasured moments day by day.
As a writer who found words compelling,
But could never discover the right thing to say.
As a believer who possessed passion,
No matter the cause she was fighting for.
As a warrior who withstood battles that left her wounded,
But starving for life even more.
As a woman who sought independence,
Seizing every chance.
As a ballerina who viewed life as an empty stage,
Never needing music to dance.
As an underwater diver who plunged into the depths of darkness,
Returning to bear light.
As an actress who played someone else,
While her own heart lay open in plain sight.
As a journalist who saw rampant waters,
Learning her journey grants faith as a travel guide.
As a doctor who didn’t focus on discovering a cure,
But put doubt to sleep by setting fear aside.
All these things I never was, and many I will never be,
But I want to be remembered for the life inside of me.
I want to be remembered not for the clothes in which I dressed,
Nor the hair upon my head.
But rather as someone who had goals and dreams to fulfill
The moment I stepped out of bed.
Sometimes I feel that I’ll never climb that mountain,
Never reach the highest shelf.
But when I do, I’ll be remembered as the girl, one of millions,
Who spent her life building something bigger than herself.
