The Goddess of Compassion moves through women who respond to human suffering by gracefully pouring their love. She has many names (Quan Yin, Isis, White Tara, Mary) but is always depicted with the most honoured flowers – a lotus in the Eastern cultures or a rose in the West – as these symbolise the beauty which rises from the murky depths (Lotus) or amongst thorns (Rose). She is often seen in blue and white, serene, sympathetic, loving and healing with her hand in a giving mudra.
“There are many who wish to gain enlightenment
in a man’s form, and there are but few who wish to work for the welfare of living beings in a female form.
Therefore may I, in a female body, work for the welfare of beings right until Samsara has been emptied."
