My all-time favourite sweet, these fruity flavoured hard gums are no longer produced by Lion of Cleckheaton, the Yorkshire firm that they originated with, though pale imitations are available from other sources, but they do not delight my taste buds in the same way as the original and best ones did.The black ones were my favourites. We always used to buy a box from the wholesaler’s at Christmas, as all of our children and grandchildren liked them.

I have been heavily involved in photography since 2006 and it has pushed my other interests into the background. I have always used Canon cameras, but recently treated myself to a Nikon Coolpix.

At this rate I will soon need a wheelbarrow, when I go out on a photoshoot! Most of my pictures are handheld, as I do not like working with tripods. They are a nuisance to cart around and it takes ages to assemble the things. However, for certain kinds of photography they are indispensable.

Oh all the sugar in these! They look yummy!

  • Thank you, Pamela. They are actually quite low in sugar. 100g would give approximately 100 calories, so a lot lower than chocolate and they last for much longer too.Just cannot get on with the pale imitations on the market, as they do not have the same flavour. Of course, anyone who had never tasted the original Lion Midget Gems would be none the wiser and think that they were O.K., I suppose.

Oh yummy, I love these and can almost feel them getting stuck to my teeth!!!

  • Thank you, Vivian. You need a cut of piping hot chocolate in the winter to help wash it down. Chocolate flavoured milk in the summer is nearly as good, though they are best eaten still warm from the oven. Now I’ve got the chocolate flavoured milk in the fridge, but Michael hasn’t done any baking…!!!!

This is so creative! Makes a great card. ☺♥

  • Thank you, Jade. They taste as good as they look – the “real” ones, that is!
