An aloe vera and a money plant on the window sill of a private house in Essex, England, UK. Used with the owner’s permission. The aloe vera is a variety of succulent and its leaves have powerful healing properties. It is useful in the treatment of burns, stings and rashes, as well as being a general skin tonic. The gel from the leaves and the leaf interface are both soothing. The gel oxidizes rapidly, so should be used within four hours of removing the leaf from the plant. It is green, so, if it has turned brown, this means a chemical change has occurred and it will have lost most of its healing properties. Do not apply to an open wound.
