Sporadic Edition 1 – 15 August 2007
WELCOME TO…
...the first formal news publication for the Collaborations On Redbubble Forum. A regular way for there to be a comprehensive update on all the collaborative happenings on RedBubble. As best as I can present it that is because there are probably a ton of collaborations that happen in this community that aren’t registered in the forum. If you know of any that are hidden from us all please consider adding it the the Collaborations Hub, everyone would love to see what co-conspiring collaborators conjure up.
In this first edition you can expect to find recent uploads to the Collabtrain Project, my first "Collaboration Feature Article", a sample of the recent collaboration projects that have been linked up, the first “Collaboration Feature Artist” (karolina from America) and a little classifieds section for desperately seeking collaborators… find your perfect match!
COLLABTRAIN EXPRESS happenings!
The wheels are turning steadily now with more editions and more in the works since
the last update. Click the links to see the artists finding their inspirations and the evolution of the train gallery itself. This is only the beginning!
9 August![]()
Karolina uploaded Breaking Free (It was also featured on the Home Page that day, yippee publicity)
10 August![]()
Dave Curtain added a poem to the Train Word Gallery (a cross-over promo prepared for the ‘shadow’ challenge) Check it out if you would like to have a go at creating something wordy or visual from his verse and add your own interpretation.
14 August![]()
Rayjun uploaded The Hatchling caught the Train she’s georgiegirl’s mum BTW.![]()
heydiddles uploaded carefree days on cottonwool hill and finding new ways to feed the bubble addiction.
Add as many times as you like and jump in whenever you have the time and inspiration. It is another way to add to the rich diversity of this community and grab some cross promo at the same time… All for one and one for all type thing… ha
FEATURE ARTICLE RBHQ and the fulture of collaborations
The more collaborations that I undertook here at RedBubble the more obvious it
became that there needed to be a space like the Collaborations Hub. A place where collaborative works could be displayed casually so that all parties were able to benefit from the entire community being able to walk through and see the friendships and wonderful work that this inspiring site can stir within passionate artists and creators.
However, there were always a few ideas of how things could operate better to allow
a cohesive and easy way of streamlining communication and management popping into mind. Especially with projects that are as large as the Collabtrain, but also with the ever growing number of members and the geographical barriers that the internet eases but RedBubble have not yet been able to map out.
With the development of the Collaborations Hub and the continued success and excitement that the collaborative community have captured here, I decided to approach RedBubble HQ with a couple of ideas that I hoped they may consider adding to their BluePrint Roadmap. These were in response to little issues that were restrictive to the promotion and business side of collaborations. This is what Xavier Russo (marketing at RB) had to say:
"I agree 100% with you that we need to do more to support collaborations
...and that they could be a really powerful way to make life easier for artists, and to encourage the growth of RedBubble.
We’ll need to think about implications (e.g. legal, user experience, site structure,
etc), but it seems to me that a good solution would involve (i) a shared space for each collaboration project, providing easy transfer of files and joint publicity (ii) automatic sharing of any revenue, in a proportion agreed by the collaborators
(iii) raising the profile of collaborations in general."
Won’t that be great!
So many ideas and so little time at RedBubble, no wonder they are hiring more
staff with all the demands we put on them… The best thing about the team at
RedBubble is that not only do they listen, they also consider!
The only way is up!
COLLABORATION FEATURE ARTIST karolina – USA

Name: karolina
City: Mukilteo (near Seattle)
Country: United States
Soo happy to be here a wonderful community of art lovers and inspirational
spirits galore.
A bit of my background:
I was born in Gdynia, Poland & lived there until I was five yrs old. Due to the harsh times of a communist ran govt, my family moved to the US. We lived in Brooklyn, NY for seven years. Those years were wonderfully naive and innocent, even amongst the daily crime and drama of living in the projects. When I was twelve we moved across the country to the west coast, Washington state, where I currently live.
I graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Interdisciplinary Visual Arts. Im currently pursuing my dream of actually
trying to make it as a serious artist- and not just a starving artist :)
I love hearing feedback from others, so come check out my gallery and dont
be shy with the comments!_

SIGNING OFF
If you would like to contribute to this publication with any articles or collaboration
news you have been privvy to, drop me a note at my bubble.
With all the new additions to the site it’s a little bit difficult to predict how things could be presented in the future, but for now I will work with what we have. The biggest deficit in this sense is that only watchers receive certain mail, so it’s technically in every collaborators best promotional interest to forward a link or a note through their own journal/blog to encourage readership, if you think that they might be interested that is, it’s entirely up to you.
Hope you enjoyed the first issue. Being the first one it’s pretty long so thanks for having the patience to get this far, consequent issues won’t be so bulky.
Back to the bubble factory!
