  • Kathleen Cameron:

my god there is some f.ing GREAT stuff in the databases online… you should check out the national archives – if you love old energies like me… the worst of this story is that it took months for his mother to formally be notified of his death… it took a letter from a fellow soldier to her, then SHE had to write to the military to get formal confirmation of which they had to track down … imagine how long that would have taken with ship mail…

    i could be a walking encyclopedia! :-)

she probably cried at nights so no one could see. during the day she was a strong, proper woman.

don’t listen to me… I’m just a writer at heart.

    Good find.

I’ve been researching my Uncle Harold’s death – he died in the cockpit of a Lancaster Bomber somewhere over Germany in 1943.
The squadron records don’t add up though and I’m becoming increasingly convinced that he was on some kind of mission that was classified as secret.
There is much to learn from the past but I’m not sure any of it sinks in

When I see documents like this one, I am reminded that those long past lived lives of joy and sorrow, and their lives are confirmed in a sense. Thank you for sharing this with us.

We only pass this way once…most are never noted…it is generational…grand parent to present reality parent to the next generation of parents and then…gone. A bitter sweet footnote in the form of a note or notice that No. 58051 Pte. Clyde Edgar Affleck passed this way…alive for this moment as we read of his untimely passing on 27/10/18…which makes him our next of kin…we are all connected…Namaste.

I should add, you are so lucky to be able to glimpse a trace of your ancestor and their past life. Beyond my parents, I know nothing more of my family and there is no valid record of their existence. I don’t even know my grandparents real names.
