I spotted this vortex shape on a large tree trunk driftwood lying on a Lake Michigan beach called Pier Cove! The twisted pattern and smooth textures drew me right in. SW Michigan, USA

I used to collect pieces of driftwood when a kid at our familys summer camp in Vermont. Some were rather plain and I swear some had something to teach us, to wonder in fascination as if traveling into, through and around something very special. You know, the kind of things we used to do before age and reality took their toll? Nice work, Kathi! :-)

  • Oh, I love your thoughts that the driftwood reminded you of when you were a kid! I collect a lot of driftwood now and find the most cool pieces…then I make bird houses out of them. Some of the pieces are too big to use for the birdhouses, but they are irresistible not to take with me!
