Spirit of the Tree
“As we moved deeper into the forest, the noise of the outside world began to fade. The forest floor was soft and damp while the smell of decomposing leaves wafted in the thick still air. Here and there splashes of sunlight shone through the thick canopy of leaves. Stories of this particular forest had been passed down through the generations in this small country town. Whispers of magic and strange lights at night had spread near and far. We were not disappointed for our adventure had just begun as we approached a giant oak tree which somehow seemed to come alive…............”
Macro photograph taken from a paperbark tree. Aperture priority taken late in the afternoon which I find has the best lighting for what I like to achieve!

It was almost as though our very footsteps had woken the spirit within the tree. How many more would be woken if this spirit alerted it’s neighbours. We soon felt engulfed by the eerie presence within the forest. Were the spirits malevolent, or benign? We may never know as we made our way back to the safety of the cabin at the edge of the forest. What we would never be sure of was whether the spirits walked the forest at night.

Ooh Kathie, lovely! so atmospheric especially looking/reading this at 2.30 in the night! with bats [fruit] silently swooping around outside my window, giving little flaps of their wings, squarks and squeeks as they chomp on the Guava fruit.

Suddenly the Enchanted Tree Warrior awoke, his eye’s were like fire. His flashing silver blade slashed wildly in our direction. Our hearts & minds were filled with fear but we’d come this far & we could not turn back…. Besides, this is far too interesting a scene to just run off without stopping for a good look. Its got everything Kathie, textures colours & shapes not to mention shadows & light. Just perfect. XX
