The Sun Blinks back its sadness
as the Robber Bird soars past,
Gospel of Saint Luke firmly in his grasp.
Sand lays Pink upon the shore
where Sailors dance a Square,
where Marx and Jung strum Banjo
Strings ‘neath summer’s early glare.
Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,
in Unison marches ’cross the sand.

And perched atop the Wind-Swept Dunes,
Sirens sing the Harmony,
and Sinners fall upon their knees to Beg for Clemency.
The Beatniks raise their Voices ,
the Cold War seemingly gone,
even Stalin is seen Grinning
’hind his Coney Island Dog.
The Beach Boys lead the Anthem song,
the Body Politik hums along,
the Body Politik hums along.
Manjit from Bangalore arrives,
unfurling his Victory sign.
And the Suffragettes have stopped Reciting Party Line.
Gatsby lolls in a String Hammock
Rocked by the winds of the Isle,
Daisy beholds the cloudless sky,
Powder Blue for mile upon mile.
A Mocking Ginger Cookie scampers ‘cross the sand,
’Catch me, catch me, catch me if you can!’
‘You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!’
Br’er Rabbit Frolics in the surf,
along with Cindy Loo Hoo.
Sock Monkey sits as Coxswain for the Harvard Crew.
Ann Frank builds Castles on the beach,
as the Maytag Man digs the Moat,
Shakespeare lowers the Drawbridge
and the Borrowers Launch the boat.
Board a Yellow Submarine commanded by Captain Smee,
visit the Octopus Garden underneath the Sea,

Moon Doggie and the Bee Gees
ride Dune Buggies ’long the shore,
swiftly over lofty hills with miles to explore.
Alight upon the Lifeguard’s Roost ,
John’s Seagull touches down,
Chairman Mao knocked from this Stool,
through air with nary a sound.
Bono Lounges beachside Soaking up the sun,
silence from the Rattle & Hum,
silence from the Rattle & Hum.
MacBeth stands in Que at the Chip Wagon
’hind the Ample Mrs. Jack Spratt,
up ahead the line has stalled as Jack can Eat no Fat.
Barbie and friends Bathe in the Sea,
Washing ‘way all of their Woes.
Nearby, Madame Bovary wades
Boldly Bare Foot in the shoal.
Bob Marley leads an Exodus up and down the shore,
no need for a ticket you just get on board,
no need for a ticket you just thank the lord.
Schools soon gather in the Shallows,
Saint Andrew fishes off the Quay,
Oprah’s Daggar at the ready to Carve the catch into Filets
The Bronte Girls Tend the bon fire,
whilst twilight begins to Close In,
and Pavlov’s Dog Bays at the moon,
Wretched Pining for Rin Tin Tin.
Tennessee Williams writes poetically in sand,
‘None other day has been So Grand’,
‘None other day has been So Grand’.
Ayn Rand roasts Marshmallows Plump,
as Aesop’s Old Wife tells Tales,
stories heard from far and wide, over Hill and Dale.
The sky has emptied of the sun,
the Chill makes Nietzsche Shiver.
‘Time to leave’ nags Hilary
and Bill knows not to Dither.
The Sultans of Swing Take the Long Way Home,
Wanderlust urging them on to Roam,

The beach is near Deserted as
Andy Warhol Douses the fire,
the Beautiful Day…..just ashes now, upon a Funeral Pyre.

you are a real poet and I can’t imagine writing anything so wonderful as this..amazing rythm and flow and the pictures that come up in the mind with your poem are inspiring..you paint with words..and it’s funny but when I paint I also have to get a kind of rythm happening..so maybe poetry and painting have more in common than we think… congratulations .. well done lovely lady that you are!
