The Lake Lady
We see this lady every day when we stay in Hanoi.
She takes her daughter around to the restaurants and cafes around Ho Kiem Lake, hoping that somebody buys the chewing gum and fans that she has for sale. If she can’t sell any of her goods, they beg for the rest of the evening.
Her daughter is there to hopefully increase sales. Unfortunately massive amounts of compassion aren’t really evident in the majority of tourists in the area.

You’ve really captured the essence of their plight. Vietnam has such a tragic history… That background statue is a poignant reminder of the probable cause of her poverty.

Wow – you noticed that?! Have you been to Hanoi before?

Thank you, Laura. I appreciate you taking the time to check it out! :)

Amazing, I think we could all do with a dose of humbling reality for some. Probably once a month would be enough for us to really appreciate what we have. You’ve got the message across perfectly with this, very good timing.

Thanks heaps, Cathleen. I have grown to believe that appreciation for what we have has a hell of a lot to do with our happiness levels, too. Our trips over there really make it hit home as to how lucky we really are.
