This delicate Hebridean Spotted Orchid. As it has a longer central tooth petal I reckon it is not the Heath Spotted Orchid which is very similar.
It was growing on the isolated coastline on the island of Scalpay, now accessible across a bridge from the main island of Harris but still extremely remote by main European standards.

Location: Outend, Scalpay, Outer Hebrides, Scotland, UK.
Nikon D7000, Nikkor 18-200mm. Macro programme. Captured in RAW, post-pro conversion, crop and adjustments in Adobe CC with NikColorEfex.

Very pretty, i have never seen one of these …

  • Tom, thank you! Once I spotted the first one (excuse the pun) I kept seeing them. Maybe you are a little like me when taking landscapes particularly, looking for the panorama and not underfoot:-)

Aren’t these “finds” wonderful! Amazing flower! Congratulations on your feature in Wildflowers of the World – FAVE!

  • You are so right, I nearly tripped over the first one. Then took a closer look. Quite a stunning flower in such barren surroundings. Thank you for your kind words, fave and congratulations:-)

  • Wow, that is unexepected honour! Great news, thank you for letting me know. I’m particularly pleased that this Scottish Hebridean flower won from all those beautiful orchids from around the world.
