Waverley Station is the main railway station if you arrive or leave from Edinburgh by train. In 2011 this historical station was undergoing some major refurbishment and part of the unique building is covered by alumuninium scaffolding visible in this shot across the main concourse from the side upper stairway.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10. 1/100s. f/6.3. 400 ISO. 21mm. Slight crop, adjusted contrasts and tones in CS4 with NikColorEfexPro.

    that looks pretty cool

  • Adrian, thank you! I did some post-pro but the shot was somehow there anyway. The station has so many interesting historical features, it is a shame that they are difficult to capture or are being removed.

By the way, I was thinking of you last weekend when I was at the BMW Welt with some visitors from abroad! Kasia

THE FIRST TIME I WAS IN THERE WAS IN SEPTEMBER 1952.THERE WAS A STORY IN THE PAPER ABOUT A YOUNG MAN WHO HAD GONE TO WAR…WENT MISSING AND NEVER FOUND.tHEN SOMEONE THOUGH THEY HAD SEEN HIM AT WAVERLY STATION.HIS FATHER WENT TO THE STATION EVERY DAY STOOD AMONG THE TRAVELLERS AND WATCHED FOR HIM..CALLING HIS SONS NAME. .PERHAPS SOMEONE KNOWS OF THIS STORY AND WHAT THE OUTCOME WAS…HOW LONG DID HE WATCH AND WAIT FOR HIS MISSING SON…. DID HE GIVE UP….AS A PARENT,IT BREAKS MY HEART TO THINK ABOUT HOW THIS FATHER MUST HAVE FELT.

  • Diane, I’ve never heard that story. But I’ll ask my Mum if she remembers it. I couldn’t find anything in the internet. Thanks for commenting even if it brought back sad memories.

A terrific capture of a familiar place. I always seem to be here when it’s really cold.

  • Don, thanks! It wasn’t that warm but that typical quick change from sun to rain back to sun again. I managed to make the most of the sunlight through the roof. Kasia
