Pulsatilla is a highly toxic herb used to slow the heart, treat premenstrual problems or even induce childbirth. Perhaps this explains why the plant is called “Frauenleiden” in German, which approximately translates as “Woman’s Suffering”.
I was unaware of the uses of the herb while taking the photos, as I was more interested in the stages of floral development from the hairy purple almost poppy-like closed leaves to the strong purple and yellow blossom, finishing off with the airy almost dandelion like final stage.
