24th December 2007: It was late in the afternoon and the winter sun was slowly setting, bathing the Lake Rieg in an amazingly warm and golden light, despite the icy cold. A few people were out skating – even with babies in prams – before going home for German Christmas celebrations, which usually start after dark.
The rough surface on the ice are snow flakes that have fallen and frozen almost immediately. The Bavarian Alps beyond are bathed in an interesting soft light as the humid air cools rapidly.
Location. Lake Rieg, near Murnau, Bavaria, Germany.
