Arizona: Desert Road by Kasia-D

From my series World from Above series a shot taken over Arizona. Captured at around 9,000 ft from a Cessna on an air tour from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon in March 2007. This road hacked into the desert hills above Phoenix has left a permanent scar seen from a small plane at just under 9000 ft . The red has to do with the iron deposits in the ground.

Location: Arizona, USA
Nikon D70, Sigma 18-200mm. Post-pro in CS4 with NikColorEfex Pro filters to re-adjust the colours which were distorted through the plane glass, etc.

Incredible shot Kasia- love the amazing colors and undulations. Beautiful!

  • Rosie, thank you. I really loved it too. It was fascinating seeing how they had carved this road into the moutainside. There is a tiny wee car on the road too, giving it perspective:-) Cheers to you Down Under my dear. Winter is starting here and you have early summer. Hard to believe. Kasia

Kasia – here you go again! Fantastic shot in yet another aircraft – I don’t know how you do it – but I love the results! xx

  • Bob, my recent flights (as a passenger) inspired me to upload a few shots from archive:-) I’m very pleased you like it, my friend. It was my first, and so far only trip, in a such a small plane – and I loved it! Thank you!! Kasia

totally amazing how different things look when you see them from an unusual perspective. great shot..this looks totally cool. i’d love to drive that road and all its twists and turns!

  • Michael, thank you very much! You are so right about the different perspective, I think that’s why I so much enjoy looking at the world from above and trying to guess where I am from the rivers, mountains, etc. The road does look quite a challenge or fun to drive. Kasia
