Fields of Plenty by Kasia-D

From my series World from Above series.

Just before arriving in Munich, a couple of years ago about this time of year. Thanks to the airline crew for letting me take these shots – not all do – and thanks to the Bavarian farmers for their neat artwork! Little did they know what effect they might be creating.

Nikon D200, Sigma 18-200mm. Post-pro in CS4 with NikColorEfex.
Location: Bavaria, Germany

    A wonderful patchwork of fields.

And an interesting comment about the crew. Do you always ask as a matter of course? You can’t exactly be discrete with a D200. And some airlines regard a camera as electronic equipment that can interfere with the aircraft and must therefore be switched off for takeoff and landing. Here’s evidence that the D200 does not…

  • Hi AJM, thank you! Here is a link to an article I wrote after many people asked me different questions.
People with point-and-shoot cams don’t ask and won’t be noticed. But I don’t want the hassle. So either I keep my camera in full view when they do their seatbelt check or I try to catch the eye of a more mature crew member.
I have it on the word of two pilots that it is not a technical problem but a matter of policy – better ban everything than take a risk. Which of course I can respect!
This will change I guess as more and more cameras have in-built GPS.
My new point-and-shoot with GPS has an airline mode and it tells me when I try to take a shot that it is not permitted during flights and I should switch off the GPS till I’m on the ground!
