On an evening in late May 2009 the weather was fine for a tour out onto The Oa penninsula in the south of Islay.

Drive up from Port Ellen, past Kilnaughton Bay, over The Oa penninsula to the end of the single track road. Turn right, rather than continuing on to the American Cemetry and the Monument, along the track to the wee village of Lower Killeyan. Then take a walk over to view the spectacular cliffs and coastal scenery. The view over to bay towards The Rinns of Islay were breathtaking.

Location: Lower Killeyan, Islay, Scotland, UK
Nikon D200, Sigma 18-200mm.
As the angle of light was not quite right at the time of day, I did some post-pro with Photomatix, CS4 and NikColorEfex. I’d be interested in any critique on the treatment.

Such beauty. It makes me want to live in a little croft there. (If it wasn’t so cold)!

  • Fran, thank you! It is a beautiful place and there were some crofts nearby. But it is definitely not so warm as where you live and much more isolated. Thanks for visiting! Kasia

That’s a real beauty Kasia! Your processing is just right, well done!

  • Andrew, thank you! I’m pleased the treatment seems to work. The problem was giving the dark cliffs enough light detail without overdoing the foreground. Cheers, Kasia

Beautiful shot. Great lighting, and the sky stands out well too.

  • Fiona, thank you very much. I’m glad the lighting works naturally. I used a polarisation filter to bring up the sky. Kasia
