View to Portie (Portobello) from Joppa, the most easterly suburb of Edinburgh between Portobello and the Royal Burgh of Mussleburgh.

Joppa and Portobello beaches are the seaside resorts of Edinburgh and busy on sunny days like this. It was a Friday and still quiet until early afternoon.

Location: Joppa, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.
Nikon D200, Sigma 18-200mm. Early June 2010.

Joppa is an area of geological interest. Known for its natural evaporation salt pans on the rock faults – that can be seen in the foreground – since the 17th Century, the salt pans ceased to be of economic interest in the 19th century.

I love these kind of places in Edinburgh where you can take the local bus and discover things like those salt pans and geological information. Cheers, Kasia
