From my series World from Above, taken from a commercial plane 11,000 metres above Ireland: One of the last views over the Irish west coast before crossing the Atlantic to the USA.

Location: Between Doonbeg and Quilty, Co. Clare, Ireland.
The larger of the islands to the north of the shot is Mutton Island.

Nikon D200, Sigma 18-200mm. Captured in RAW. Post-pro crop, contrasts, digital neutral grey grad, etc. in CS4 with NikColor Efex.

The traditional accompanying music Farewell to Ireland or “Farewell to Erin” – performed here in a session in Asturias Spain! There is a great empathy of cultures from northern Spain across Ireland and Scotland!

I shot “Lonely Beach” in 2002 on Dough Mór beach which is located at the bottom of this aerial scene:

    Stunning .. :))

  • Thank you, Carlos. A great honour as always!
This was a new trip compared to my many archive shots. I was thinking of you although I went north and not across the Iberian peninsula this time! Obrigado, Kasia

Kasia, I think this is a section of the coastline between the Co. Clare towns of Doonbeg and Quilty. Great capture

  • Paul, thank you for your tip – from Doonbeg to Quilty is just right. I’ve added the Google Earth Map. What a coincidence – I found one of my first ever uploads to a website has top views taken on the lower beach:-) Kasia

Hi Kasia, I’d like to accept this into the ‘Islands of Great Britain’ group, but it would be good if you could identify the islands top left of shot in the description.
    Thanks, Howard.

  • Hi Howard, Sorry, I thought Ireland/Eire was counted as an island. I’ve corrected my description to include the name of Mutton Island – the largest in the group. Thanks for taking the time to give me the chance to correct this. I realise what extra work this must be as a host. Kind regards, Kasia
