Uffing Mill Pond by Kasia-D

This small river pond with a weir is situated in the middle of Uffing. The winter light made the colours and contrasts particularly attractive on that late December day.

St. Agatha’s church is in the background. Parts of this building date back to 1480, although there may have been a church of some kind here since the 9th century. By the way, Adri mentioned the tower which is very typical for the southern parts of Bavaria, called an “onion tower” (Zwiebelturm) or “Welsh Bonnet” (welsche Haube) – “Welsch” meaning foreign or strange and not from the country of Wales:-)

Location: Uffing am Staffelsee, Upper Bavaria, Germany.

Nikon D200, Sigma 18-200mm. Postpro in CS4.

a very nicely framed shot. i like how the water leads your eyes to the building. the colors are warm and welcoming. nice touch with the little duck on the foreground as well.

  • Adrian, wow that was quick! Thank you for your long comment. I very much appreciate your taking the time to look at the details. It was a cold day but the light made the colours special. I’m pleased you like this one!

hehehe i’ve been working on my b/w portraits for four hours now, and when i saw this one, the colors just popped out. it was almost like sensor overload. now that i see it again, i wonder what it would’ve looked like if you faced the camera a little bit more to the right? probably not a good idea though, since this one looks clean already. good job again :D and of course i like it, what’s not to like about it ?

  • I did enhance the saturation a wee bit but the light was amazing. I just checked my archives and I did take a shot aimed more to the right but there bushes in the foreground. This was one of the few views from the bridge I was on without bushes or branches obscuring the view. I also like the V-shape created by the weir and the banks on the pond. Good luck with your portraits – it’s an area I’m not good at. I prefer models who don’t speak back or move too much:-))

Sehr schönes Foto mit schönen Farben und Reflexionen, Kasia!
Ich liebe diese typischen süddeutschen Türme.
    Grüße aus Holland,
    Adri

Groetjes, Kasia
