Another in my series World from Above, captured during a commercial flight between Phoenix and Atlanta, USA.
This series of playas and seasonal lakes centering on Laguna del Perro southeast of Estancia are a are a notable geographic feature of the county. I located this in Google Earth: Laguna del Perro and various salt lakes and lagoons, Torrance County. Route 60 cuts through from east to west.
There is a historical marker with information both on the geological history of the formation of the salt lakes as well as on their use as salt source for Pueblo Indians from the 11th to 16th centuries and later by Spaniards, particularly for silver production in Mexico.
Location: Laguna del Perro, Torrance County, New Mexico, USA.
