North Uist: Traigh Bhalaig by

Vallay beach (Traigh Bhalaig) and salt marshes on the island of North Uist (Uibhist a Tuath) with views towards the islands of Berneray and Harris. North Uist is part of the Outer Hebrides island chain of the north west coast of Scotland. The beautiful sea pinks or thrift (armeria maritima) were in abundance.

The beaches here are amazing for long walks and lots of good photos, especially if you get weather like this of course.

Wow, it’s magical with all these wildflowers covering the ground like a carpet. Excellent work.

  • Thank you! These flowers really are like a carpet and are often actually covered by the salt water.

Know the area well and the Outer Hebrides have beaches like these are in abundance. They are just wonderful and images like these really do show the beauty well. Never been that lucky with the weather on my visits but it never detracts for me. Superb!

  • Kevin, thanks so much! I’ve been there a couple of times when staying on Berneray and had amazing weather. Even got a touch of sunburn. As you say, even on less sunny weather there can be a great atmosphere.

Such a rugged yet delicate landscape.

  • Thanks, Ranald. One of my favourite places for walking, photos and dreaming – provided if I can get to North Uist, of course:-)
