Taken during a walk on a breezy June afternoon on the beach at Ness (Port Nis) on the Isle of Lewis (Eilean Siar), the largest of the Outer Hebrides island chain off the north west coast of Scotland.

I liked the contrasts between grey skies and yellow beach with hard rocks and soft sand.

Nikon D200, Sigma 18-200mm. Captured in RAW. Post-pro in CS2.

MY God am on my way Delicious Have u considered The Scottish Tourist Board for some of these Stunning Pics Fabulous Frank x

  • Frank, I’m speechless… Thank you! I’ll have to think about that suggestion.
Lewis is different to Harris in many ways and worth a visit too for the standing stones of Callanish and much more. The cliffs around the lighthouse at Ness Point a few miles from here are pretty spectacular.

Excellent shot . . . great composition and that sky looks abit ominous :)

  • Thank you, Dave. There was a brisk breeze but as so often on that trip no rain. Behind me there was a school outing and some kids had even been swimming…

A beautiful place indeed Kasia and added drama by your treatment of the image. Only a few weeks since I was up there in Harris/Lewis and I already want to go back:-)

  • Richard, those islands are so lovely. I’ve been a few times and enjoy looking at my photos to bring back the memories and transport me there. I’m really pleased you like this one – I used a grey grad filter to lighten up the foreground a bit. Thank you!
